The plum tree at Enkei temple in Hondo bloom the rose pink flowers which catches the people's eye.
This tree is supposed to be age-of-a-tree 500 years, and is specified to be also a prefectural cultural property.
In fact, This tree has been said to be applied a curse of wife whose husband died of the violent death in the Age of Civil Wars of 400 years ago so that the tree never bears any fruits even if the flower blooms.

AKI's Dolphin Watching!

Tsujishima island in Futae, Itsuwa-town is known as the world famous spot for dolphin watching, and it is said 300-500 dolphins live around the island.

Adugong was found out at the sea of Ushibuka in Amakusa.
Dugong should inhabit tropical ocean but are going north because of the earth warming.

This dugong appearance is caused by the earth warming.

The former assistant professor of Osaka University graduate school (physical science graduate course), who had corrected on environmental problems, such as agricultural chemicals and dioxin and helped the civic movement for relief of a victim and support, returned to home country Amakusa after his retirement two years ago.

Supporting the lawsuit which solves the agricultural-chemicals contamination in a living environment, and correcting the agricultural-chemicals administration of the government, his activity is widely known and he is famous as the pioneer environmental movement.

After returning to Amakusa, he continues his activity energetically, such as establishment of the law about regulation of the chemical substance which pollutues living environment.

Laying eggs of the coral...

The table coral supposed that eggs are laid at the night of a full moon.

Laying eggs in the moonless night was found in the Ushibuka Marine park in Ushibuka-city, Kumamoto. It is possible to be a new type of coral.

For coral, it is usually said to lay eggs on the first full moon in the sea water temperature 26 degree centigrade or more.

Although it was on August 4 in the schedule, eggs were not laid on that day, but it was begun from August 18 after half a month, the previous night of a moonless night.

The World Legacy Amakusa Shiro's Battle Flag

About 360 years ago, AMAKUSA-SHIMABARA christian battle broke out by he 16-year-old leader, Shiro Amakusa with 37,000 people.

The battle flag, the symbol of the christian in Amakusa, is the Important Cultual Asset in Japan and one of the three sacred flag of the world.


40 yeras ago, the flag was talked to be sold to the Rockefeller Foundaion by 100 thousands dollars. At this time, Mr. Eiji Zaitsu (professor of Baiko Univ.) who was the researcher from the Ministry of Education performed urgent specification to the important cultural property, and he saved this crisis.
And now, the flag is on display in Amakusa, the birthplace of Shiro Amakusa.

Amakusa College was established about 410 years ago.
It was a large theological college for clergyman training of a Christian.

On20th Jan. 2004, The naked festival, the spring event of YASAKA shrine was held in Reihoku town, Amakusa.

This festival is a traditional event which a mountain priest prays in the sea of the winter, and it is supposed that it was prayed for helth and continues from 400 years ago.

The sea of the winter was cold, naked young men and the tourist were shivering.
