(Itakura Family Document)

These are the report from each government, such as Kumamoto and Kurume, and from the gun magistrate (Shigenari Suzuki : later Amakusa local magistrate) who was serving in Amakusa-Shimabara Christians' Battle (1637 - 38) to the officers in Osaka They are memos, notes, both-way letters.

What the government kept was copied and carried to the Amakusa magistrate's office.
In this report, on 14 November 1637, it is said that the Christian army attacked Hondo city in two ways from the sea and the ground, but Shiro Amakusa landed on the shore at Mogine in Hondo-city and went away riding on the horse.

 
 





The army of Christian was organized by 1,600 people from Amakusa and 2,000 from Shimabara of Nagasaki, they had arms like a stick with a knife, a hatchet, a partisan, 100 guns and 40 bows.
And it is proved that Shiro had a uncle and cousins to be excutedand Chube Ashiduka, the captain of the Christian army was surely existed by this document.

The battle had been known on tales, these documents describe the progress. They are very precious as the first and fundamental historical records.
